The Local Government Managers Australia (Queensland) held the Awards for Excellence last night in Brisbane. I am pleased to advise that the Housing Services Team won the prestigious award in the category of ‘doing more with less’.

This award category recognises projects or initiatives that showcase the philosophy of ‘doing more with less’. Lateral thinking, creativity, increased productivity and simplicity are the drivers of this successful project or initiative that is an aspirational model for other smaller councils.

Congratulations to the Housing Services Team who has consistently provided housing services to our constituency despite the everyday challenges of collecting rent, inspecting houses for health and safety, discussing debts with clients, dealing with leaky taps and broken fans, as well as developing processes to ensure housing is managed in a fair, equitable and professional manner. A Housing Officer’s job is never "done".

TSIRC has over 1000 social housing rental properties currently on its assets register which makes TSIRC the largest Indigenous tenancy manager in the state of Queensland.

The award submission outlined how Council devoted resources to building our Housing Services Team to better face the issues of delivering community housing in a remote location.

The Housing Team is now a fully functional structure delivering quality social housing services with team members demonstrating their daily self-reliance and lateral thinking to solve issues.

Please join me in congratulating the Housing Services Team in receiving this award.
